Congratulations to ALL of the participants in the Westgate Fall 2012 Basketball Shootout Tournament. Every had a great time and the fall winners are:

The Birds Are Coming!!

Next week the birds will be here and they will not be happy....
Students will work through "levels" with these birds...trying to knock down the barriers and get the animals.

Club K December Dates

There will be no Club K over the holiday break

Heart Course!!

Wow, the kids are working on the exciting heart course where they play a Red Blood Cell carrying waste and oxygen throughout the body.  We also learn fun facts about the heart, the importance of exercise and proper diet.  Kids "love" the heart course!

Walk to School Week

Remember, October 1st-4th is Walk to School Week!!!  Let's see how many people we can get walking to school!

Club K

Club K is coming soon...my wife had surgery and I have been Mr. Mom for the last 6 weeks...a few more weeks and we should be good to go!  The dates this year will be Tuesday for younger kids and Thursday for the older kids.  More info coming soon...

Welcome back!!

I hope everyone had a fantastic summer and stayed active!!  School is underway and I look forward to a great year.  This year, the travel teacher will be Mr. Helmann (or Coach H) from Greenbrier School.  Welcome Coach H!

Tennis At Westgate!!

Mr. Haber, a parent and employee of Wilson sporting goods, helped organize several local tennis pros to come and help teach tennis to our students.  We had instructors from Heritage Tennis Club, Schaumburg Tennis Plus, River Trails Tennis Center, and Forestview Racquet and Fitness Club.  The kids had a great time learning some new skills and using the equipment loaned to us from Mr. Haber.
THANK YOU EVERYONE for making tennis such a cool  unit!

Just Dance 3 Results!!

Last week our classes were grooving it up to the Wii game, "Just Dance 3."  Each class picked songs and tried to beat the high score for each grade level.  At the end of the week, the class with the most high scores  gets recognition.  The following classes were grade level winners:
1st grade  = Carney's class with 6 wins
2nd grade = Jensen's class with 5 wins
3rd grade = Lambert's class with 5 wins
4th grade = Kuehl/Sutton with 7 wins!!
5th grade = Duffy's class with 4 wins

Congratulations to all classes for having a fun time while dancing and learning some new moves!

Saturday Run/ Walk Practice

Mrs. Svoboda and her family will start practicing for the ABC/25 + PTA run/walk on April 21st.  Each Saturday before the event, she will be running/jogging/walking at Pioneer Park at the corner of Fernandez and Grove.  This is a family event, and parents are required to stay with their children.  Meet time is 8am.  Get out and Just move it!!

ABC/25 + PTA Just Move It

Come Join us on Saturday April 21st at South Middle School from 7:45-9:45am for a 5K and 1 mile run/walk.  Remember to wear your school spirit wear!  Sign up for the event here

ABC25 Just Move It

To promote healthy living choices for children, ABC 25 has started a new initiative called The Just Move It Challenge!  This event will also raise money for grants and PTA scholarships that ABC 25 has funded in the past.

There are two events available:
1.  Family 5K run/walk with awards for the top finishers

2.  Kids 1 mile run/walk with awards to the top finishers in each age group

Although the focus is on School District 25 families, surrounding communities are invited.

The location will be at South Middle School on April 21, 2012.

The cost for adults is $20 and the cost for children 1 and under is $10

Chicago Wolves Hockey

We just finished our 2 week "Chicago Wolves" floor hockey program.  The wolves donated jerseys, certificates and a voucher for a free ticket to a wolves home game.  The kids really loved wearing the home and away jerseys during gameplay and it really made it easy to tell who was on your team!!
Thanks to the Chicago Wolves Organization and Austin Strajack for setting up this opportunity!!

February Club K Dates

Club K will be on the following Dates:
Feb. 6th, 9th, 13th, 16th, 23rd, and 27th
There will be no Club K on Feb. 2nd due to the Open House
There will be no Club K on Feb. 20th for President's Day

Baby Emma has arrived

Over winter break, baby Emma was born on 12/21/2011 at 12:21pm and was 21 1/2 inches long.  She was 7lb 5oz.  Momma Lynn is doing good and recovering.  Best holiday gift ever!!
